USPS NEW PRICES FOR 2014

It is better to stock up on those 'Forever Stamps' now as it will save you a few dollars later. The US Postal Service is waiting approval  from the Postal Regulatory Commission of a 3-cent increase on the First Class stamp .

The new prices which would take effect on January 26, 2014 is the last resort to align costs and revenues. The USPS receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services. Highlights of the proposed hikes include:

  • Letters (1 oz.) - 3-cent increase from $0.46 to $0.49
  • Letters additional ounces -1 -cent increase from $0.20 to $0.21
  • Postcards -1-cent increase from $0.33 to $0.34
Inspite of this price increase, the USPS is analyzing whether stamps have any future at all. It has hired a futurist, Faith Popcorns' Brain Reserve to examine ways to stem the decline in stamp use.
