Spring Forward- Spread Sunshine

Recently, I have been thinking a lot about common courtesy. I don't see it much anymore, and it saddens me and at times, sets me off on a rant. My most recent uh...episode, being with a pharmacist who insisted that I was "wrong" when I had brought to her attention that my prescription had been incorrectly filled (for the third consecutive time). She had shown No Compassion, No Concern, only anger and annoyance. I left in a huff, after many a wasted minute, exclaiming that I would never avail myself of their "services" again. I think I read on her face, "Don't let the door hit you on the way out!" It appears that "The Customer is Always Right" policy went out with yesterday's trash. General civility is out on the curb beside it.

Pay it Forward": a movie starring Kevin Spacey, Haley Joel Osment and Helen Hunt. Its' optimistic storyline features how a few kind deeds can snowball into widespread humanity. This movie, adapted from Catharine Ryan’s Hyde’s book of the same title is sweet and meaningful to me … and as I have read, to many others. (Click here to read about the Movement) Although the story describes large gestures, I believe that little things such as holding a door open for the person following behind you, offering your seat to someone who needs it (my mother remembers being very pregnant and having to stand on the bus!), or making eye contact and smiling can make a big difference too. An acquaintance of mine used to say to her daughter, “If someone doesn’t smile at you, give them one of yours”! Wise advice, I say.

A new season approaches. Make it a sunny one and smile!
