Turning Health into Wealth

Calling all innovators and entrepreneurs.

According to market research studies by Jupiter Research and Yankelovich Inc, 95 million Americans, about 80 percent of online adults, have searched the Web for health information in the past year, and the overwhelming majority have been disappointed. More than 70 percent of those searchers either did not find what they were looking for or had a hard time knowing what to believe.

The Web Returns to Health

A huge, underdeveloped marketplace- how many of those exist out there on the web these days?

Attend the China Small Business Fair

Would your Delaware Business be interested attending the China International Small and Medium Enterprises Fair?

Now is your chance to find out how.

WTC Delaware, in conjunction with the State of Delaware OMB, is considering participating in the 3rd China International Small and Medium Enterprises Fair, September 15 to 18, 2006 in Guangzhou China (just northwest of Hong Kong).

Small companies (both importers as well as exporters) would be invited to be included in the "Delaware Booth" for a small fee, and can send their materials along on the trip to be represented by WTC Delaware and the State of Delaware. If the company desires, they may also send along a company representative. Chinese interpreters in the booth would be provided.

If you are interested in participating in the Fair, or would like more information, please contact Rebecca Faber by email or by phone at 302-656-7905.

Patent system changes maybe forthcoming

"This legislation is not an option, but a necessity,"
said U.S. Senate intellectual-property panel chariman, Patrick Leahy.

The 45-page bill, called The Patent Reform Act of 2006, proposes a number of changes to the way American patents are awarded and challenged.

Notable reforms include:

  • Shift to a "first to file" method of awarding patents, which is already used in most foreign countries, instead of the existing "first to invent" standard.

  • Establishment of a "postgrant opposition" system that would allow outsiders to dispute the validity of a patent before a board of administrative judges within the Patent Office, rather than in the traditional court system.

  • The placement of new restrictions on the courts where patent cases could be filed--an attempt at rooting out "forum shopping".

  • Limit the amount of damages for winners of infringement suits.

  • Change in the method used by the courts to calculate the royalties owed.

Delaware Law Changes

Earlier this summer I wrote about some of pending changes to the Delaware code, and indicated that I would follow up with more info when it was available...

The Delaware General Assembly approved the following legislation in 2006 amending Delaware's business entity statutes:

SB 322 - Corporate Amendments

HB 414 - Limited Liability Company Amendments

HB 415 - Limited Partnership Amendments

HB 424 - General Partnership Amendments

Click on each bill to view in PDF format.

Some of this year's legislation is effective August 1, 2006, while other parts are not effective until January 1, 2007 & January 1, 2008.
