How tax-friendly is your state?

It's not often that we can say Delaware isn't #1. It is the "First State" after all.

In terms of ranking as the most tax friendly, we will have to settle for being in the top 3.

The Tax Foundation has conducted a study that estimated the average taxpayer's total state and local tax burden for 2006.

"Tax burden" would include state and local income taxes, property taxes, sales taxes, luxury taxes and fuel taxes, among others. It also factors in the portion of business taxes passed along to state residents through higher prices, lower wages or lower profits.
