IRS Increases U.S. Residency Certification User Fee Effective April 1

The Internal Revenue Service announced that the fee for processing Form 8802, Application for United States Residency Certification, has increased beginning April 1, 2012.

The new rate will be a flat fee of $85 per application.

The revised Form 8802 and instructions are available to the public effective April 1 at http://www.irs.gov/formspubs/.

Why would you need Form 8802? Form 8802 is the application for the Form 6166 residency certification that you will receive if you are eligible after applying using the Form 8802. Form 6166 certifying that your company is listed as a residents of the United States for purposes of the income tax laws of the United States may be used to claim income tax treaty benefits and certain other tax benefits in foreign countries.
