Introduction to Twitter for Business

Twitter is a social media site that is based on the format of a cellular phone text message. This site involves short message of up to 140 characters. The main idea of Twitter is condensed status updates. Whether it is current news in your office or your industry, the “tweet” should be concise. Tweets are just one way to interact with other users. A few of the ways to connect are:

· Tweets- The messages on the home page timeline. This is the main communication method of Twitter.

· Replies or Mentions – This is commenting or asking a question to a specific user. By adding @username to your tweet, you are mentioning another user such as @DEIntercorp.

· Retweets (RT) – This is sharing a tweet from another user. It is a mention of the user and his/her post.

· Message or Direct Message (DM) – These are comparable to an email of 140 characters that is sent to a follwer. These are private messages that are not seen on your homepage timeline.

· Lists- This is a way to organize Twitter users into a group. Lists are not limited to only the people following you, you can add anyone to a list.

Unsure of how to start? The next post in our series will show you how to start your Twitter business page.
