USPS 2-D BARCODE INCENTIVE PROGRAM

The USPS has filed with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) a Mobile Barcode Promotion that will provide an upfront 3% postage incentive to mailers of commercial First-Class Mail and Standard Mail letters and flats that includes two-dimensional barcode that can be read or scanned by a smart phone.

This program is designed to increase the value of direct mail and build awareness around integrating mobile technology into direct mail communications. If approved, this promotion will run from July 01,2011- August 31, 2011. Participating mailers will be required to affirmatively claim this promotion in electronic postage statement submissions and certify that each mailpiece contains a mobile barcode either within, or on the outside of the mailpiece.
