Back In Time

You have probably noticed that there have been many recent toy recalls in the news for lead paint, small parts causing choking hazards, and chemicals that metabolize into GHB.

Well, no offense to some of our biggest toy makers, but I'm going to start going the old-fashioned route and make the toys that I will be giving out this year.

One of my friends received homemade toys from her mother way back in 1973, and although my friend was unhappy about it, I thought it was a great idea. While it may not be just what a twelve year old would normally want, my grandaughter is two and loves any toy she's given.

With the advent of the Internet, we don't have to figure everything out for ourselves. There are many sites available for patterns and ideas. You can also purchase handmade items if you don't have the time.

While this is no guarantee of safety, I think it's a great idea to give our kids or grandkids something that they may not have at the neighborhood mall.
